Tat Ton National Park





Tat Ton National Park located on Phu Lan ka Mountain range in Phu Lan Ka conservation forest. The park has total area of 217.18 km2. It was designated to be National Park on the 31st December 1980 as the 23rd national park of Thailand. This area is a part of Lum Pa Tao river source and flow to meet Shee River of which utilize Esarn People.

Geographical Features


It is on Phu Lanka Mountains. Most of the land is on the highland and surrounded by mountains. In the central is lowland. There are three peaks: Phu Kaset, Phu Dee, and Phu Youk. Each peak is the water sources as well as Dtan-dta-nod Waterfall. The river is flowing though Muang District, Chaiyapoom.

Weather Condition


There are three kinds of weather as the following:
  1. Summer – between February-May, the weather is very hot. Most of tourists prefer to go to the waterfall.
  2. Rainy – between June – September, Dtad-Ton waterfall is very beautiful during this time.
  3. Winter – between October-January, the average weather is about 13c

Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals

The Park consists of dipterocarp forest and dry evergreen forest, important flora are Shorea Obtusa, Shorea Siamensis, Dipterocarpus tuberculatus, Dipterocarpus obtusifollus, Semecarpus and Pterocarpus macrocarpus. Wildlife are found here e.g. barking deer, wild pig, mangoose, siamese hare, squirrel, shrew, red junglefowl and birds.

Start from town of Chaiyaphum (The highway 1 from Bangkok turn left at Saraburi Province to Amphur Pakchong . Then turn left to the highway 201 to Chaiyaphum). Tat Ton National Park's Headquarters located on Naa Fai Sub-district, Amphur Muang , Chaiyaphum Province. Get the highway 2051 (Chaiyaphum-Tat Ton) to the end at Tat Ton Waterfall.

Sai Thong National Park





Lacated on Pung Huei Mountain range consist of Na Yang Gluk Conservation Forest and conservation preparing forest. Sai Thong National Park was designated on the 30th December 1992, with total area of 319 km2. The Park located in Amphur Nong Bua Rawae, Thep Satit, Pakdee Chumpon and Nong Bua Daeng, Chaiyaphum Province.

Geographical Features


It is the head water of Lum Huai Prong Khun Pet, Lum Huai Chiang Ta, Lum Huai Yae, Lum Huai Yang, Lum Nam Jao-field of Shee River.

Pa Hin Ngam National Park






Initially, Lan Hin Ngam was known by local villager. However, in 1985 (B.E. 2528), when Thep Sathit District Officer and Thep Sathit District Forest Officer surveyed and discovered of natural rock garden, which was very beautiful. They thought it should be conserved for tourism and recreation. Therefore, they presented document to the Royal Forest Department in order to set a national park. On the 10th October 1986 (B.E. 2529) this area was declared as Pa Hin Ngam Forest Park, with the area of 10km2.
In 1993 (B.E. 2536), the Royal Forest Department surveyed the area near by and found that 80km2 of surrounding forest is still fertilizing. Therefore, due to its fertile forest and fascinating features, this Forest Park was designated a national park on the 19th September 1994 (B.E. 2537).


Geographical Features



The area consists of mountain range which has mountains, such as Pung Haui Mountain, about 200-800 meters above sea level. In geology class, the area divides into Phupan Rock, Prawihan Rock and Phu Kradaung Rock which are the rock, about 180-230 million years ago, of Jurassic and Triassic era. Also, the area is the source of water of She River’s area and Sonthi River which empty into Parsak River.

Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



The forest is semi-evergreen forest mixed with deciduous forest. The main plants are Siamese sal, ingyin, Burmese ebony, Lithocarpus collettii A. Camus, Payom (a kind of Dipterocarpaceae), pride of India, San (a kind of Dilleniaceae) etc. Animals found are barking deer, wild boar, hare, pangolin, porcupine, bamboo rat, palm civet, squirrel, monkey etc.

If we want to go Pa Hin Ngam first, use the highway 1, pass Saraburi Province to Phu Kaem T-intersection. Take a left turn to Lum Narai highway (road number 21), then turn left and along the highway 205 (Lum Narai-Lum Sonti-Thep Sathit-Nong Bua Kok-Nakorn Ratchasima) for 48km., turn left to highway 2354 for 15km then turn left for 14km to Pa Hin Ngam National Park' s Headquarter.

Sud Paen Din Viewpoint is steep cliff at the peak of Pung Hoei Mountain, which is formed by the rising of the earth face. The plain is connecting zone between the centrality and Esarn region, therefore, it is called 'Sud Paen Din'. At this point, about 2km. from the Park Headquarters, we can see panoramically of Pung Hoei Mountain and conservative forest of Sub Lung Ka Wildlife Sanctuary.

Phu Laenkha National Park






Phu Lan Ka National Park, in Huy Ton Sub-district, Muang District, Phu Lan Ka Sub-district, Kewa District, Kud Chum Sang Sub-district, Kumuang Sub-district, Nong Bua Dang District, Ban Diua Sub-district, None Kok Sub-district, Sra Phon Tong Sub-District, Kaset Somboon District, Chaiyaphum Province, is productive forest and habitat of many kinds of animal. There are many unique and beautiful places for examples Hin Ngam Chan Dang Forest, Natural Arch Rock, Orchid Cliff, Tard Hin Dard Waterfall, Tard Tone Waterfall, Pra Cave, Keng Cliff and Pair Cliff. The area has convenient way to visit and is about 200.5squares kilometers or 125,312.5 Rai.


Geographical Features



Most of this conserved forest is in the mountain ranges such as Phu Lan Ka, Phu Kiew and Phu Khum Noi. The area consists of complicated mountains and plateaus approximately 200 to 725 meters above sea level. There are mountain peak 669 meters high in northwest part and Phu Lan Ka Mountain, the highest peak 725 meters, in northeast part. The south area is sloping plain about 200 to 500 meters above sea level. The north part is very-slope area, most of it is cliffs.


Weather Condition



The weather in this area is three seasons; summer from February to May; rainy season from March to September; and winter from October to January.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



There area consists of productive forest such as deciduous forest, semi-evergreen forest, mixed forest and grass field. The valuable trees are Siamese sal, ingyin, Hiang (a kind of Dipterocarpaceae), Burmese ebony, Tabag (a kind of Lagerstroemia), eng, ironwood, rosewood, rauwolfia, black plum, Payom (a kind of Dipterocarpaceae), Krabog (a kind of Ixonanthaceae), Malabar ironwood, rattan, many kinds of orchid, grass and herb.

Animals found are hare, monkey, wild boar, ground dwelling squirrel, flying squirrel, noisy rat, mongoose, palm civet, and many kinds of bird, snake, fish and insect.

By Car

From Bangkok, use national road number 1 to Pathun Thani Province, Ayudhaya Province and Saraburi Province approximately 170 kilometers. Then use national road number 2 to Muag Lek District, Pak Chong District to Si Kiew District approximately 85 kilometers. After that use national road number 201 to Dan Khun Tode District, Jatturas District, Chaiyaphum Province approximately 120 kilometers. Sum of the distances are about 312 kilometers. After get to the destination, traveler can also travel by public roads in the area.

Phu Langka National Park






Phu Lang ka National Park, about 31,250 Rais or 50 squares kilometers, covers the area in Baan Pang District, Nakhon Phanom Province, and Sega District, Nong Khai Province. There generally are productive forests such as montane forest, rain forest, mixed forest and deciduous forest. The area is the source of water, habitat of a number of animals, and has many wonderful places to visit such as cliffs, caves and waterfalls. Despite the beautiful scenery and productive forest, the area also has varieties of life and environment.


Geographical Features



The area has three mountains, overlapping each other and lying north and south, alternating with mountain ranges and small mountains along with Khong River. The highest peak is about 563 meters above sea level. This mountain Range is the source of many rivers which flow to Khong River in Baan Pair District and are valuable for agriculture of people around Phu Lang ka National Park.


Weather Condition



The weather in this area is the same as other parts of Northeastern Thailand. At the top of the mountains is cold temperature about 0-5 degrees Celsius, approximately 25-36 degrees Celsius all the year round. The area has 1,860 mm. of rain per year.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



Generally, plants found are wild flower especially Lady’s Slipper Orchid which used to be taken for export until it is almost extinct. So almost of flowers now are orchids in family of ARACEAE and ORCHIDACEAE, and many kinds of herb. Most of animals, often found and told by local people, are mammals such as wild boar, monkey, palm civet, barking deer, squirrel, flying squirrel, chipmunk, many kinds of bird, and reptiles such as salamander and snake.

Phu Lang ka locates close to and parallel with national road number 212 (Nakhon Phanom – Baan Pang – Nong Khan) about 105 kilometers. And 220 kilometers far from Nong Khai Province, and 6 kilometers from Baan Pang District. How to get there is convenient in any seasons, and also has many ways such as Bangkok – Udon – Pang Kone – Wanorn Niwas – Sega – Baan Pang or Bangkok - Sakhon Nakhon – Nakhon Phanom – Baan Pang. Traveling season starts from March to October.

Phu Lang ka Rock There are many interesting rocks such as; Kong Khao Si Boon Nauo which is a group of rock look like a pile of rice-straw and has a look-like rut of cart nearby; and Koge Tala Pat which has large plain of rock consist of carved rock look like Tala Pat (a priest’s tool for sermoning) and carvings on rocks.

Tard Kham Waterfall Tard Kham Waterfall is not very cascade cascading four levels. There is also a small rock-floor nearby for recreation. The lowest level is a pond which has water all the year round. It is well known by visitor from around the area such as Nong Khai Province, Sakhon Nakhon Province, Udon Thani Province etc. Everyday has about 100 visitors, and, especially, on weekend or holiday there is about 400-500 visitors.

Tard Phor Waterfall Tard Phor Waterfall is a very beautiful cascade each of which layers higher than 10 meters; especially at second layer is 30 meters high. There is clearly seen from the road Nakhon Phanom – Nong Khai in rainy season. Despite the waterfall, the area also consists of many wonderful places such as big and small caves, for examples, Ya Cave, Por Nga Cave, Tar Tad Cave, Gear Cave and Ajarn Wang Cave.

Nam Phong National Park






It is named Nam Phong National Park after its source called Nam Phong River which flows to be kept in Ubonratana Dam (also named Nam Phong Dam in the past). It is a national park, in accordance with the suggestion of Khon Kaen Province, called in the past “Nam Phong – Phu Meng” because some of its parts are in Phu Meng Mountain Range. Nam Phong National Park, located in the west part of Khon Kaen Province and close to Ubonratana Dam, is in the National Forest Reserve such as Sok Tae Forest, Phu Meng Forest, Khok Luang Forest, 3RD Cluster Khok Luang Forest, Phuphadam Forest and Phuphadaeng Forest in Ubonratana District, Banfang District, Nongruea District, Manchakhiri District, and Khok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province. And some areas are in Banthan District and Kangkhro District, Chaiyaphum Province. It is about 197 square kilometers.


Geographical Features



The Park generally consists of sandstone mountain range, located above sea level and similar to the most mountain ranges in North Eastern Thailand. The mountain range, lying from north to south along with Ubonratana Dam, is the source of main rivers, for examples, Phong River, Choen River and Chi River. Its north part is in Phuphankham Mountain Range, and its south part is in Phu Meng Mountain Range. In the west side of the Park is alternately steep mountains and erected cliffs, some of which are in contact with the reservoir below. And in the east part of the park is a vastly plain area at the foothill which is about 600 meters above sea level.

80% of the Num Phong National Park consists of deciduous forest which has mixed forest, grassland forest and bamboo forest scattered everywhere. In the middle of the park, both Phuphankham Mountain Range and Phu Meng Mountain Range, is productively semi-evergreen forest which is the source of streams flow to Ubonratana Dam. Not only wild animals live, but also have many important kinds of herb derive from this area. The valuable plants generally found are Siamese Sal, ingyin, Dipterocarpus obtusifolius, Ivingia malayana, iron wood, and shrubbery such as wild cycad, climbing plant, and many kinds of herb and prickly plant.

Most of animals found live in semi-evergreen forest in Phu Meng Mountain Range which is productive and rarely disturbed by man, and are medium-size and small-size animals, for examples, wild boar, barking deer, wolf, porcupine, pangolin, hare, jungle fowl, snake and many kinds of bird.

There are two ways to get to Nam Phong National Park.

Use national road number 12 (to Chumphae District); turn right at kilometer stone 30, go ahead19 kilometers for Nam Phong National Park Headquarters at the right side, approximately 49 kilometers from the start.

Use national road number 2 from Khon Kaen Province (to Udonthani Province), turn left to Ubonratana District and turn right at the dristrict to ARD Road number Kho Ko 3034 (Nongsaeng-Tharuea) along Ubonratana Dam 20 kilometers to Nam Phong National Park Headquarters, approximately 65 kilometers from the start.

Beautiful Nature

Famue Daeng Cliffs Going on foot, not far from Nam Pong National Park Office, to the Road for Studying Nature, Kome Phone, Plarn Chard and Hin Chang Si, there are many cliffs along the road. From each of the cliffs, traveler can see the beautiful scenery of Ubonrat Dam, the condition of the forest and the west-side mountain range clearly. So that makes this be a suitably circle-walking trip for studying nature within 3-4 hours.

Hin Chang Si View Point
It is a group of rock, located in the ridge of Soktae Forest Mountain north of Nam Phong National Park Headquarters, which is the best view point of Nam Phong National Park for watching sunrise and sunset. It is named Hin Chang Si (Elephant-rubbing Rock) because, in the past, there had wild elephants come to rub their body against the rock and left the soil on it. On the Hin Chang Si View Point lays a large floor of rock. And at the top of it is a skull-like rock located solely. Traveler on the floor can explore all surrounding sceneries, for example, in the north and south are covered with evergreen forest, very far away is Khon Kaen City, and in the west is the wonderful scenery of Ubonratana Reservoir which is not only beautiful but also very large and vastly far away until out of sigh at Phuwiang and Phukao Mountain Range.

Kham Phon
It is a 5-meter-across circle hole of rock similar to a crater which derives from geological condition. Kham Phon is not very far from Phalan Chat and Hin Chang Si View Point.

Pha Chan Dai

Pha Sawan
n is a large floor of rock jutted out north and south. It is a view point which is as beautiful as, and three kilometers north of Hin Chang Si View Point. Because the way to get there is quite difficult and traveler can go on foot only, so it is more suitable for overnight-trip traveler than one-day-trip traveler.

Phalan Chat or Lan Chat
Traveling on foot 30 minutes from Hin Chang Si View Point, Lan Chat is a large floor of rock which has Chat Tree—a local three called by local people, grow on it. From this point, traveler can explore all over the forest of Nam Phong Forest clearly. Traveler come to Hin Chang Si View Point may also drop in here.

Phumeng Mountain
Lying south of Nam Phong National Park Office, Phumeng Mountain consists of productively deciduous forest and semi-evergreen forest. It is the main place of herb, the source of water and the habitation of a number of animals, so that make the place be appropriate for studying nature and herb.

Ubonratana Reservoir
At the front of Num Phong National Park Office have Lodging House, Traveling Service Center, and toilet for traveler. It is the first place for traveler to enjoy seeing beautiful sceneries of Ubonratana Reservoir, the way of life of fishing man sailing their boat on the water, and the wonderful picture of sunset in the evening. These wonderful things are impressive for traveler to take a vacation, overnight camping and many kinds of activity.
