Khao Nan National Park






Lying in Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province, Khao Nan National Park is a part of Krung Ching Sub-district, Noppitam Sub-district and Talingchun Sub-district, Thasalar District, and Khaonoi Sub-district, Theparat Sub-district and Plian Sub-district, Sichol District. The park consists of high mountain ranges and productive rainforest which is the source of the important rivers in the Province. There are valuable floras and wonderful natures such as Nam Tok Sunanta (Nam Tok Khao Nan), Nam Tok Krungnang, Nam Tok Klongpean,Nam Tok Kradai and Krungnang Cave etc. The park is 409.79 square kilometers.


Geographical Features



The Park consists of complicated mountain range along north and south. The important mountains are, for examples, Khao Nan Yai, Khao Nan Mia, Khao Lek and Khao Chong Lom. Khao Nan Yai which is about 1,438 meters above sea level is the highest. The park is a part of Nakhon Sri Thammarat Mountain Range. Most of the area is productive rainforest which is the main source of the river in the area, and the habitat of many kinds of wide life, and valuable floras. There also is the rich source of minerals, for examples, tin, barite and wolfram.


Weather Condition



Most of the area consists of productive rainforest which causes high humidity in the air and heavy continuous rain so that the weather in this area is rather cold all the year round.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



90% of the area is productive rainforest which has many valuable plants such as Yang, Malacca Teak, iron wood, thingan, Heritiera sumatrana Kosterm and wild champak for example. More over, there is a special plant called Elaleriospermum tapos B1—its fruit is expensive and popular for eating, which grow together in a large cluster. The Elaleriospermum tapos B1 is rarely found growing in cluster, so its cluster in this area may have been the important supply of its seed. There also are a large number of animals, for example mountain goat, tapir, barking deer, wild boar, mouse deer, palm civet, civet and many kinds of bird, reptile and amphibian.

Approximately 744 kilometers.

    Beautiful Nature

    Hong Cave Consisting of many strange-looking stalagmites and stalactites, it is a cave that has stream runs through it. The special thing of the cave is that it consists of more than five level of waterfall inside. Travelers have to walk through water all the way. Many bats also inhabit there. The cave is well appropriate for studying the source of rock.

    Khlong Prao Waterfall This is a very beautiful waterfall. The water flows along the small steps of wonderful rocks to become the source of Klongguy (Guy Channel).

    Khlong-Ta-Leak Waterfall The waterfall consists of seven levels, each of which has different name, for examples, Hnanaret, Hnanchangtok, and Hnantoui. The important feature of the waterfall is deep pond and stream which has beautiful rocks and boulders surrounded.

    Krung Nang Cave The cave is four kilometers from Krung Nang Waterfall. It has beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. Many bats also inhabit there.

    Krung Nang Waterfall The waterfall locates in Suanprang Village, Krungching Sub-district, Thasalar District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province. Travel on foot 5 km. from Suanprang Village.

    Lode Cave The unique feature of this cave is that there is a big stream runs through all the year round. The entrance of the cave looks like a big mirror which is wonderful and strange. At the front of the cave lays a big stream and deep pond fitting for playing water. There is a limestone cave which has no water called Hang Cave (Dry Cave) nearby.

    Luang Cave (Tham Luang) At the floor and ceiling of the cave contain the perfectly beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. Especially on the floor has many circle rocks which local people call "An Arrow of Khonthorn>/b>".

    Nang Chong Fa Waterfall Consists of seven levels, the waterfall is a very beautiful waterfall in Khao Nan National Park. Travelers have to travel on foot only. If travelers want to see all of seven levels, they may take overnight trip there.

    Sunantha Viewpoint It is the view point for watching for the sun rises from the Gulf of Thailand and enjoying the lights from fishing boats glittering like stars at night.

    Sunantha Waterfall The waterfall consists of seven levels, each of which has differently natural beauties. Especially at level one which is high about 80 meters. It locates in Pakjao Village, Talingchan Sub-district, Thasalar District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province, and 15 kilometers from 110 Kilometer Stone on national road number 4041. There is a tarmac road extended to the waterfall.

    Khao Nan Trekking Trail It is the go-on-foot traveling for studying nature of the productive forest on Khao Nan Mountain which is 1,438 meters above sea level. Traveler will find the productive forest and many kinds of animal. At the top of the mountain cover by moss and fern, and has strange-looking plants. The weather is cold and has much humidity all the year round.

    Bua Chak Yai Nature Trail It is the road that traveler can find the beautiful nature of “Bua Chak Yai”, which is the primeval fern aged about 230 million years.     Elaleriospermum Tapos Forest Nature Trail There is a cluster of Elaleriospermum tapos about 6.4 - 8.0 square kilometers. On February to April, the Elaleriospermum Tapos will give its new red leaves contrasted with the old leaves very beautifully. Its fruit can also be cooked in many kinds of food.

    Khao Luang Naional Park






    The Park, located on the southern peninsular of Thailand in Nakhon Sri Thammarat province is Khao Luang National Park. It is named after the tallest mountain in the park which is also the tallest in southern Thailand. The park is mountainous with many tall mountains along this range.


    Geographical Features



    The Park covers an area of 570km encompassing a huge variety of wildlife, including mountains, forests, rivers and waterfalls. Providing a place of beauty for visitors to come and experience. This area also provides an important watershed area for the surrounding villages and farms.
    Park provides a green roof to southern Thailand and its quality earned it an award in 1999 for being a place of outstanding beauty and nature.
    Park was officially designated a National Park on the 18th December 1974, becoming the 9th National Park in Thailand. The Headquarters of the Park is 30km from the town of Nakhon Sri Thammarat.
    mountainous Park is a watershed for the Tapee River. It is located within several districts; Lansaka, Chawang, Phiboon, Plomkiri, Chang Klang and Nop Pi Dam.


    Weather Condition



    Due to the Parks location on the peninsular, it receives monsoons from both the east and the west coasts and means that the Park receives a great deal of rain all year and also cold weather. There are two main seasons. Rainy season from May through to January with the heaviest of the rainfall between October and December. Hot season is between February and April. Over the year the Park receives approximately 3,500-4,000mm. of rainfall. The highest temperatures range between 28-30 Celcius and the lowest between 15-17 Celcius in January and February.


    Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



    Moist Evergreen Forest, which can be found in the valleys and in damp gulleys and riversides.
    Hill Evergreen Forest and Lower Montane Forest,Over 300 species of orchids can be seen within the Park. Khao Luang is the only place in the world where some of these can be found.
    There are no less than 327 species of animals living in Khao Luang, some of these include; Malayan Tapir (only seen if you are very lucky), Sumatran Serow, Pigtailed Macaque, Bush-tailed Porcupine, Clouded Leopard, Barking deer, Sambardeer, Binturong, Panther, Tiger, Wild Pig, Banded Languar and Dusky Speckled Languar.
    Bird species include, Black Eagle, Red Jungle Fowl, Great Argus Pheasent, Crested Fireback Pheasent, White-crowned Hornbill, Bushy-crested Hornbill, Great Pied Hornbill, Helmeted Hornbill, Redcrowned Barbet and Sunbirds.

    By Car

    The town of Nakhon Sri Thammatat is 800Km. south of Bangkok and can be reached by plane, train bus of car. To get to the Headquarters located near Karom Waterfall. From the town of Nakhon Sri Thammarat take Highway 4015 to Lansaka (about 28Km.) There is a sign on your right hand side indicating the turn off to the Park Headquarters is in 1Km. White 'Song Taew' (Truck with 2 benches in the back) also go from Nakhon Sri Thammarat and past the turn off to the headquarters.

    To Get To Krung Ching take Highway 4016 from Nakhon Sri Thammarat taking you past the turning for Phrom Lok, Ai Khieo and Yod Luang Waterfalls. When you reach a T-junction with Highway 4140 turn left and continue till you reach Ban Rong Lek where you turn right onto Highway 4186. Follow this road to Ban Huai Phan where you turn left onto Highway 4188. From here it is a further 8Km. to the visitor centre.

    Nam Tok Yong National Park






    Located in Nakhon Si Thammarat, There is nature trail that you can walk and touch the nature to Khao Men peak, 1,100 meters from mean sea level. The park comprises of fertile forest and may beautiful setting, they are Yong, Khlong Chang, Nan Plio, Nan Chon Waterfalls and Khao Ram Rom Peak


    Geographical Features



    Geographically it is mountain ranges runs North-South consists of many mountains with an average high of 600 meters from average sea level. The important mountains are Mhen, Kuan Tung (Khan Mak mountain as a local name), Wang Heeb, Phra, Lum Roam, Pak Praek, Plai Berg, Koo Ha, etc. The highest mountain is Mhen mountain which is 1,307 meters above average sea level. It’s also an important watershed area of many canals consisting of Kui canal, Jung canal, Wang Heeb canal and Pak Praek canal which all of them are very necessary for people living around this area. Generally soil characteristic is clay, clay mixed with friable soil, friable soil mixed with sandy soil and less laterite. Mountain ridges and its shoulders consisted of friable soil, sandy stone and granite stone. Geological Department explored this area and fount out it’s abundant of iron and wulframm.


    Weather Condition



    The park is located on the Indian Peninsula and under the influence of monsoon wind of both sides : Andaman Sea which is on the western side and the South China Sea which is on the eastern side, so it’s fairy rain throughout the year. The weather is quite cold during May-December and summer is around January-April. Average temperature is 26 Degree Celsius.


    Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



    Generally, the park consists of Moist evergreen forest and Hill evergreen forest with abundant of valued species of plant as well as big tree such as Dipterocarpus macrocarpus Vesque, Intsia palembanica Miq (Malacca teak), Hopea odorata Roxb, Mesua nervosa Planch&Triana. (Chestnut iron rood), Anisoptera costata Korth, Heritiera sumatrana Kosterm, Pentace tripterm Mast, Neocinnamomum caudatum Korsterm, Artocarpus rigidus Bl. subsp. A. asperulus Jarrett, Michelia Champaca Linn, Payena havilandii King&Gamble, Lithocarpus cantleyanus Rehd, Gluta compacta Evrard, Sandoricum koetjape Merr.Syn.indicum Cav, Parkia speciosa Hassk. Lowland fauna consisted of species of ferns, bamboos, vines and plants in family Rubiaceae / Leguminosae / Capparaceae, etc. Many wild animals and birds can be found in this park are panthers, barking deers, porcupines, wild pigs, mouse deers, leopard cats, linsangs, civets, monkeys. leaf monkeys, great argus pheasants, green pigeons, red jungle fowls, orioles, tree babblers, etc.

    Khao Mhen Waterfall Nam Tok Khao Mhen, about six to seven-levels waterfall, comes from Hemon Mountain Range. There are only two levels of the waterfall, about 18-20 meters high, which are convenient for visitor to visit, and have water drop directly from the cliffs onto the ponds below. The waterfall is situated in a valley between Hemon Mountain Range and Khunmark Mountain Range. Traveler can walk along the stream about one to five kilometers to get there. Many local travelers now like to travel there.

    Plew Waterfall Nam Tok Pliew, one of the most beautiful waterfalls, comes from Yong Mountain Range, and situates in Pakprag Forest inside the high mountain range. The waterfall is cascading on eight levels, each is 15-18 meters wide and about 25 meters high, and has water all the year round. And because of its high that makes water drop like blowing in the wind, so that the waterfall is called Pliew (means “blowing in the wind”) after that. Traveler can walk from Namrob Village about one hour to get there.

    Yong Waterfall The Royal Forest Department has declared the waterfall to be Yong Waterfall Park since 1973. Yong Waterfall is a very beautiful waterfall which has water all the year round, and has 15-meter high water drop from its erectedly high cliff directly onto a big pond below. And Yong Noi Waterfall has a wide and erected cliff which its water runs by two ways to meet each other below.

    Namtok Si Khit National Park






    Nam Tok Si kheed National Park located in Par Yang Prong National Forest Reserve and Khao Yai National Forest Reserve, Si kheed Sub-district, Sichol District, Nahkon Si Thamarat province. This area, about 60,625 Rais (97 squares kilometers), and has been declared a national park since June 17, 1999


    Geographical Features



    The surveyed area is a part of Nakhon Si Thamarat Mountain Range (Banthad Mountain Range) which is on the border between Surat Thani Province and Nakhon Si Thamarat Province, alternated between plains and complicated-high mountain range, in Kanchanadit District and Sichol Dictrict. The mountain range, lying north and south along western seacoast, is a watershed, and in the middle has complicated-high mountain range sloping east and west. Most of the plains are in the east part. The highest mountain is Keymode Mountain 1,303 meters above sea level. The others are; Khaonang Mountain 881 meters, Wangpung Mountain 600 meters, Plaiclarm Mountain 599 meters, and Khunhuaykaew Mountain 582 meters, approximately 700 meters above sea level. Because the mountains, are the source of streams so that there are many-level waterfalls alternated between ponds, and are limestone mountains so that there are wonderfully beautiful caves such as Khaopubpa Cave, Tharnlord Cave and Suanprang Cave for examples.

    The area is situated in Malaya Peninsula and influenced by monsoon in both sides that causes rain and nice weather almost all the year round. Rainy Season has heavy rain in May to January. Dry Season is in February to April.

    By Car

    1.From Nakhon Sri Thammarat to surveyed area of National Forest Reserve (Yang Prong Forest and Khao Yai Forest), use Asia National Road (Nakhon Sri Thammarat to Surat Thani) Number 104 about 69 kilometers to Tonpayom Junction, (Sichol District on the one-kilometer right) turn left to National Forest Reserve 15 kilometers. There is the Nam Tok Si kheed area which now is the Nam Tok Si kheed National Park Office.
    2.From Surat Thani, use national road number 104 about 52 kilometers to Khao Haou Chang Junction, turn right 10 kilometers to Nam Tok Si kheed National Park Office.

    Keymode Mountain Range Keymode Mountain Range, in the middle of the surveyed area, consists of complicated and erected mountains, productive rainforest and montane forest. The area has very beautifully natural things such as mountains, waterfalls, caves and cliffs. It is the source of water, and habitat of many kinds of wild animals such as elephant, tiger, tapir, mountain goat, bear, barking deer, deer, mouse deer and many kinds of bird. This area is suitable for hiking and camping.

    Khao-pub-pa Cave Khaopubpa Cave, on the east side near Tharuiaree Canal, has very beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, is 50-meter-long from its entrance, and inhabited of big toads called Kong (Chong Kong), its weight is about one kilogram.

    Khaonang Mountain Range Traveling on foot 10 kilometers from Forest Conservation Division Office Branch 2 (Sor Khor 2, Suanprang), passing the route which has waterfall and productive forest, there is Khaonang Mountain Range which has a number of verbenaceae trees grow on the top of the mountain.

    Koram Cave Koram Cave, near Forest Conservation Division Office Branch 1 (Sor Khor 1, Suanprang), is a big cave located on a high and erected cliff, and has big entrance. From the entrance, traveler can see beautiful scenery of the forest below. The cave is the habitat and sanctuary of mountain goat, a rare and preserved animal, called Korum by local people.

    Nam Tok Nortong Nortong Waterfall locates near the Forest Reservation Division Office Branch 2 (Sor Khor 2, Samnaknian), Village No 3, Khaonoi Sub-district, Sichol District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province. It is a beautifully seven-level waterfall hiding in the middle of the forest covered with many kinds of trees in rain forest.

    Nam Tok Samnakhian Samnakhian Waterfall, 25 kilometers south of Chompiboon Junction, is a big waterfall which consists of seven levels, has very beautiful scenery, and appropriate for recreation.

    Nam Tok Si kheed Nam Tok Si kheed locates in Thakoak River area, 15 kilometers from Sichol District, Nakhon Si Thamarat Province. The source of the waterfall is a high mountain range at the border between Sichol District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province and Kanjanadit District, Surat Thani Province. The area at the border is called by local people as Chong Num Pan Gun (Watershred Channel). The waterfall starts from a 60-meter cliff which also is the source of it. The water flows along rocky canal for about 12 kilometers. There is not yet known clearly how many levels the waterfall is, the approximate is about more than 100 levels. There are four islands on the waterway. Someone say Nam Tok Si kheed is the Second Nam Tok Erawan of Kanchanaburi. The unique thing along the waterfall is that; it consists of limestone which has no lichen so that can be convenient for traveler to walk along the waterway safely. Some limestones look beautifully like stalagmites and stalactites. The green water stores in large ponds which are suitable for playing water. There is also a convenient tarmac road reaches the waterfall area.

    Phurin Waterfall Phurin Waterfall, two kilometers from Suanprang Waterfall, has a stream flown through Limestone Mountain into this cave, and beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. The stream has a great number and many kinds of fish. In the cave also inhabit a large number of bats.

    Suanprang Cave Suanprang Cave, in Suanprang Village on the west side of the surveyed area, is a big cave 300 meters long. In the cave have beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, and large amount of dung of bat.
