Kaeng Krung National Park






Kang Krung National Park, in Thachana District, Chaiya District, Thachang District, and Wipawadi District, Surat Thani Province, consists of forest and complicated mountain range which is the source of rivers for people in Surat Thani Province and Chumpon province, and has many nice places suitable for recreation such as waterfalls, streams, hot-water pond and mountains. The area has beautiful sceneries, and is about 541 squares kilometers or 338,125 Rai. The Royal Forest Department has proclaimed it to be a national park on December 4, 1990.


Geographical Features



The area consists of two-complicated mountain ranges lying north and south. A valley between two mountain ranges is the source of Luangsuan River in the north, and Klongyan Canal in the south. The highest mountain is 849 meters above sea level. Most of the area is soil-mountain which has tin be an important and valuable mineral.


Weather Condition



Most of the area is rain forest so that causes rain all the year round and the temperature is quite cold.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



There are economically valuable plants such as Lumpor (a kind of Leguminosae), champak and many kinds of Yang. The lower plants are, generally, fern and many kinds of climber which make the area is thick forest.
The animals found are wild elephant, tiger, bear, seladang, banteng, tapir, gibbon, monkey, langur, barking deer, deer, wild boar, stump-tailed monkey, banned langur, amphibian, and many kinds of bird such as bulbul, helmeted hornbill, crow-billed drongo, Asian fairy-bluebird.

Going 700 kilometers from Bangkok to Surat Thani Province, and 120 kilometers from Surath Thani Province to Thachana District, then go on 35 kilometers on tarmac road and 9 kilometers on laterite road to Kang Krung National Park Office.

Khlong Phanom National Park






Geographical Features



The high mountain range of Klong Phanom has many steep bare cliffs, typical of the limestone mountains in this area. Fertile forests drape the mountains and many streams flow beneath the towering greenery. Klong Phanom is a vital water source for surrounding communities and towns. All the streams from Klong Phanom converge creating the Klong Sok river, this in turn flows into the Klong Saeng river which is a tributary of Klong Pam Duang, itself a major tributary of the Da Bee River


Weather Condition



Generally climate is similar to other areas in southern part of Thailand as it’s abundant rain all year round because it’s under influence of northeast monsoon and southwest monsoon and also the area is high mountain ranges covered with thick forest. Climate an be divided into 2 seasons, rainy season starts from May-December, it hardly rain during August-October, summer starts January to April with the highest temperature in first-second week of April.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



It’s Moist evergreen forest covered with dense trees. It’s rich of flora which mostly economical valued tree such as Hopea, Dysoxylum thyrsoideum, Harpullia cupanioides, Anisoptera costata, Barringtonia fusiformis, Artocarpus lanceifolius, Mangifera indica, Heritiera sumatrana, Lagerstoremia speciosa, Mesua nervosa Planch&Triana, Sonneratia alba, Toona ciliata, etc. Ground plants are bamboo, fern, genus Calamus or Daemonothops, Taenitis blechnoides, Caryota urens, Salacca rumphii and many species of vines.

The forest is habitat of variety animals consisting of elephants, deers, tapirs, bears, serows, wild pigs, gibbons, monkeys, langurs, squirrels, mouse deers, red jungle fowls, etc. as well as variety of birds and reptiles.

In the survey, Chiang Roun Bamboo is the biggest bamboo in Thailand with 60-80 centimeters in diameter and 30-40 meter long, there is 30 Rais (48,000 squares meters) of the bamboo in Pruching Mountain. Chiang Roun Bamboo does not grow together with other bamboo. Its clump is about 20-30 bamboos.

Beautiful Nature

Kaeo Cave Kaew Cave is about two kilometers from Klong Phanom National Park Office. Travelers have to walk on the hill foot about one kilometer and spend about 10 minutes in exploring the cave. The cave has four rooms all of which are decorated with strangely beautiful stalagmite and stalactite.

Nam Lord Khao Wong Cave Having water run through, and a great number of bats inhabit in, the cave is decorated with beautiful stalagmite and stalactite. Travelers have to spend around 40-minute walk in all over the cave. It is about 5 kilometers from Ranger Station 1st Ban Klong Phanom.

Nam Tok Khao Wong Khao Wong Waterfall is situated two kilometers from Nam Lord Khao Wong Cave. It is an eight-level waterfall which is naturally beautiful.

Big Tree Nature trail The area is two kilometers in the back of the National Park Office. The noted things in this area are White Krabark (a tree of the family Dipterocarpaceae) and very beautiful viewpoint on the rock.

Khlong Panom - Ban Bencha Nature trail The route for study nature on water starts from Ranger Station 1st Ban Klong Phanom with about four hours on water. The appropriate time is when the area has more water in August to September.

Rhizenthes zippelii of Rafflesiaceae Nature trail Rhizenthes zippelii of Rafflesiaceae is one of the biggest flowers in the world. It is a parasitic plant which grows from ‘Tetrastigma papillosum Planch’. There are many in the mountain of Thamphung Village. The flower usually grows in November to May.

Tai Romyen National Park







Tai Rom Yen National Park situated in Surat Thani Province, in the past Khao Chong Chang was an area of communism, and other special events are an area to assassinate of Vibhavadirangsid Prince in helicopter, and to kill Surat Thani's governor assistant, at last can banditry by solder with Tai Rom Yen military operation, next there are announce to national rhinoceros.

Than Sadet - Ko Pha-ngan National Park






Located in the territory of Pha Ngan island, that is Pha Ngan island forest of national forest reservation, there are waterfall, forest and the animal is quite, then can develop the place of travel in future. The Royal Forest Department has surveyed; Pha Ngan island forest of national forest reservation, Namtok Than Sadet forest, Khao Lat Kaeo forest, Khao Khai forest, Khao Ta Luang forest, Khao Hin Nok forest, Laem Pho–Laem Kata Khwa forest and Khao Fai Mai forest. Nowadays, in the processing has proclaim it to be a national park and using call of the name “Than Sadet – Ko Phangan National Park” , covers a total area of approximately 65.93 sq. km.


Geographical Features



The landscape is high mountains, highest peak of the hills is Ra hill of 627 meters higher from the average sea level. The mountain forest is quite consists many island such as Pha Ngan island, Tae Nok island, Tae Nai island, Ma island, Tung Ku islans, Tung Ka island, Wao islands and Hin Bai island, about 30 kilometers to the north form the Pha Ngan island. Generlly the overlapping mountains and the plain stand by the valley and any of the bay area around the island.


Weather Condition



The weather condition is rainfall almost all year round. Average annual temperature around 28oC , highest temperature around 33oC in May (hot). The lowest temperature around 24oC between December and January, it making the climate cool down during the period. Average annual rainfall is measured at 1,848 millimeters, February is the lowest rainfall around 38 millimeters and November is the high rainfall around 428 millimeters.

Plants

  1. Lush primary forests is the evergreen forest with green fresh trees year round, also the forest floor of important such as hopea odorata and rebound, etc.
  2. Dry primary forest is covered the hillside and most is channel of the stone mountain, the important plants are chukrasia velutina, etc.
  3. Limestone mountain forest found such as Portia tree, Hibiscus, etc.
Wildlife
Can be classified as follows:
  1. Mammals – cervus unicolour, monkey, spectacled langur, slow loris and many javan mongoose more than 200 animals
  2. Birds - .brahminy kite, white-bellied sea eagle, hill myna, etc.
  3. Reptiles – turtle, soft-shelled turtle is the living of river and water in forest.
  4. Snakes – both venomous and non-venomous such as cobra, king cobra, green cat snake, python, etc.
  5. Amphibians – frogs, blyth’s mountain frog, that any kinds found marsh.
  6. Other aquatic life – striped sea catfish, striped snake-head fish, crab, shrimp, land tortoise, etc.
  7. Shell – oyster, scaly giant clam, abalone
  8. Octopus – splendid squid, rainbow cottle fish, etc.
  9. Sea turtle - found 2 kinds; green turtle and hawksbill turtle

  1. Express boat is middle boat, it to have a capacity for 150 persons, services 2 times daily. It takes around 4 hours for the journey.
  2. Night boat is normal boat and transport goods, 2 steps , have capacity for 160 persons. Travel in night time, also provides a bed for total passengers, services 2 times daily. It takes around 8 hours for the journey.
  3. Ferry boat is the large boat and transport goods, have capacity of passenger around 500 persons with car, truck or van around 50 vehicles. Services 4 times daily, it takes around 6 hours for the journey.

The distance from Bangkok go to Surat Thani totaling 650 kilometers by;
