Pha Taem National Park






Weather Condition



The park has a monsoonal climate with three distinct season; The rain (June-September), the cold (October-February) and the dry season (March-May). The park can be visited all year but be prepared for the chilly nights in the cold season and the occasional heavy thunderstorms in the rain season.


Varieties of Plants and Wild Animals



The park covers by Dipterocarp forest with Shorea obtusa, Shorea siamensis, Dipterocarpus obtusifollus are dominant species and some beautiful flowers. Beyond, there are some dry evergreen forests near streams.

It is also wildlife habitats for example Siamese hare, barking deer, civet, palm civet. And we can see wild pig and serow, which moved from Laos in summer

By Car


About 80 km from Ubon Ratchathani province to the district town of Khong Chiam. From here take the Khong Chiam-Khem Marat road for 15km. Then turn right and continue an other 5km until you reach Nong Phue Noi village of the Tambon Huai Phai. Here is the park headquarters located. The road is almost completely paved to the Park Headquaters.

Accommodations


Booking can be arranged through in this website or telephone booking at +66 2562 0760. Reservation can be made 60 days in advance. Payment at Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, needs to be done within 2 days after the reservation is being made.

Foreign clients who perform online accommodation booking from outside Thailand must transfer the accommodation fee (except bank service charge) to Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, Thailand, account number 039-6-02816-0.

Tourist Attractions


Pha Taem cliff can be best observed from dawn by Mae nam Khong River. On the side of the cliff are historic wall dated 3,000-4,000year old. The painting stretch out over 180 meters of the cliff wall and contain more than 300 paintings, marking it the world's largest group of cliff paintings. there are depictions of fish traps, men and animals such as turtle,Mae Khong giant catfish, elephants and dogs. The nearby Pha Chek and Pha Moei cliffs also contain paintings, but of the different stle and not as numerous as at Pha Taem cliff.


Historical

Chek-Moei Cliff It looks like Pha-Taem and has many ancient pictures even if it is less than Pha-Taem but differ from Pha-Taem.

Pha Taem cliff It can be best observed from the Mekhong river facing the steepest side. On this side of the cliff historical wall paintings are present. The paintings stretches out over 180m of the cliff wall and contains not less than 300 paintings which is the most you can found on one side of Thiland and the rest in the world.

Phu Pha Kham Is a sandstone hill with a big rockyard on top of it. On foot of the hill are also some rock painting. Standing on the Mekhong river and the forested hills.

Phu long or coffin mountain Remains of humans are found in coffin like niches in the rock. The remains are found on top of the mountain and are exposed to rain and sun influence. Most the remains in the graveyard are not complete but this centuries old place is still and impressive place to visit.

Gigentic Climber and Thungnamuang Waterfall

Ground - Level Flower [ at Soi Sawan Waterfall ] Soi sawan Waterfall is a large perennial waterfall originationg from 2 main waterways, Huai Sanom off a high and steep cliff, and Huai Soi. The two waterwaya look like two traces of a necklace that meet before merging with Mae nam Khong River.

Pha Chanadai Cliff Is a natural pine forest of the two leaf variety, close to the above mentioned cliffs. Form here you have splendid views on Loas and the Mekhong river.

The national park provided 3 nature trails.

    Phu Krabo Is a sandstone cliff which there are many rock pillars scattered around the area giving it the impression of large rockgarden.

    Saeng Chan Waterfall is unique because it flows through a mountain tunnel to a pool below. The water that hits moonlight against the earth surface.

    Sao Chaliang Rockpillars Is a strange natural phenomennom caused by water and sun erosion. The typical form is an erect rock as basic with a flat rockplate loosely across on top, giving it the impression of a giant mushroom. They can be found all over the park.

    Sao Chaliang Yai

    Soi Sawan Waterfall or necklace From heaven waterfall is formed by two streams, the Sae Soi and Sae Pai strem. Just before the drop these two streams come together forming a wild arch which looks like a necklace and thus giving this waterfall it's name.
